What happens in a therapy session?

In your first session or two you will be talking a lot about your history, your family, what is happening in your life now and what you would like to change. From there you and your therapist will determine together the course of action to take. Everything will be explained to you as you go and you will always have a say in what direction you take.

How long will therapy take?

Sessions are generally once a week (more often is available if needed) at the beginning. Each session is approximately 55 minutes long. As work progresses sessions can be more or less frequent depending on your needs. There is no way to determine the length of time in weeks or months that therapy should take. It is based on each individual person’s needs and the depth of the concern they are addressing.

Who comes to the therapy sessions?

If you are coming in for individual counseling you will attend on your own. If it makes sense to you and the work that you are doing you are welcome to invite your spouse, family members or whomever it would benefit you to invite to work on specific issues.

If you are coming in for couples counseling your therapist will discuss the process, which will require both of you to attend the majority of sessions, but also may benefit from having you come in individually or splitting a session between you.

If you are coming for family therapy any family members who is makes sense to have attend are welcome.

If you are a teen attending therapy on your own your parent(s) will be asked to join your first session for the first 10 minutes or so to get a picture from them as to what their concerns are and so that all of you are hearing the expectations of therapy together. Then, if it makes sense you will periodically invite your parent(s) to sessions to work on communication.

Will my insurance cover therapy?

Most insurance policies have some sort of mental health coverage. You will need to check with your individual policy to find out what that coverage is as most policies vary greatly from one another. Here are Evans Counseling Services we are in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO. We are out of network with all other carriers, however, we can still bill out of network insurances.

We are happy to check your benefits prior to your first session. Please keep in mind that a quote of benefits is not a guarantee of coverage.

What kind of payment do you take?

Payment (co-payment, co-insurance, deductible) is due at the time of service. We accept cash, checks and major credit cards (MC, VISA and Discover).

What about late cancellations?

Late cancellations are billed at $65.00 with less than 24 hours notice. This fee is paid out of pocket as insurance does not reimburse for late cancellations. We do understand that emergencies happen so please do discuss the nature of the emergency with your therapist to avoid a fee. If your appointment is on a Monday or following a holiday please do leave a message on our voicemail in time and your cancellation will be respected.

Do you prescribe medication?

We do not prescribe medication, however, we will be happy to provide you a list of trusted psychiatrists who can help you with your medication needs.

What towns do you cover?

We primarily provide services for Batavia, Elburn, Elgin, Geneva, St. Charles, South Elgin, West Chicago and surrounding areas.

What is your confidentiality policy?

Due to the ethics of a counseling license all therapy is fully confidential. For a full explanation please see the Notice of Privacy Practices under the Forms heading. You will be in control of what information is shared with whom through written consents. Please understand that this applies to spouses and close family members, too. If someone calls with a concern about you they will be directed to speak with the person they are concerned about and no acknowledgment of your attendance at this office will occur.
